By Rabbi Erica Burech
I grew-up attending Religious School and Hebrew school in Wheeling, West Virginia at Temple Shalom. When I dig deep into my Jewish (guts) kishkas I realize that the memories I have from my little shul, Temple Shalom, and from Jewish summer camp are truly what make me the Jew I am today. All of us who are part of Merkaz strive to help our students to make the (connection) kesher with our rich tradition, evoking feelings of warmth and comfort. I also hope that when our students reflect upon their time at Congregation Merkaz Ha-Iyr’s Limud they will view these years as the warm fuzzies of Judaism, just like when we eat the last drops of Nana’s matzah ball soup or when we are wrapped tightly in a tallit or a baby Bubbie blankie.
We have been making exciting plans this summer for Merkaz’s Religious and Hebrew School–Limud. This year we will have a Junior and Senior youth group. Activities for this group will take place on Sundays and will include field trips, social action projects and speakers who will address pertinent topics for Junior High and High school students.
Students who have become B’nai Mitzvah will have the opportunity from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. to help teach Hebrew to younger students.
The Youth group registration form and the rate is the same for students who attend from 10:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Please see link below. If you have not registered your child(ren) please register for Limud.
